'watch water freeze'

When spraying water onto the cold glass watching through the special polarising filters the ice freezes. The amazing cystals I could see are created when the water freezes, changing from a liquid to a solid forming beautiful coloured shapes. This is called a change of scale!

 'Bubble wall'

The bubble mixture was 99% water but when adding a tiny bit of soap to the water changes it and makes it become stretchy. This stretchy mixture traps air to make bubbles.
As the bubbles get older the bubble film gets thinner and thinner changing the colours you see.

What colour do bubbles turn just before they burst?

As the bubble film gets thinner, yellow wavelengths are cancelled out. As it gets even thinner, green light is lost. Beyond this point, even shorter wavelengths in the blue wavelength range disappear.

Vaulted ceilings from the book 'Heavenly Vaults'

 by David Stephenson

'The Gothic cathedrals of the Middle Ages are among the world's greatest architectural achievements. Photographer David Stephenson continues his exploration of the architecturally sublime by focusing his camera on the amazing vaulted ceilings of the medieval churches, cathedrals, and basilicas of Europe. Stephenson presents more than eighty Romanesque and Gothic vaults in kaleidoscopic photographs that reveal their complex geometrical structures, decorative detailing, and ornamental painting in ways they have never before been seen.'

When in Barcelona...

I was lucky enough to visit the gothic Cathedral of Santa Eulalia. A Beautiful old Cathedral that provides a great contrast to the more modern surroundings of Sagrada Familia. I was surprised to find geese in the courtyard!

  ALCHEMY

Definition: Several definitions of alchemy exist. Originally, alchemy was an ancient tradition of sacred chemistry used to discern the spiritual and temporal nature of reality, its structure, laws, and functions. Alchemy is often considered a predecessor to the modern science of chemistry.
It's a philosophy and practice which has sought means of transmuting one element into another (e.g, base metals into gold)
